LEXINGTON, Ky. (Sept. 22, 2006) - The University of Kentucky continues to work closely with the Commonwealth of Kentucky's Office of Drug Control Policy to combat the meth epidemic and to address the needs of the state's drug endangered children.

"Drug abuse, and the abuse of methampehtamine in particular, is a problem that continues to plague the Commonwealth, preventing Kentuckians from reaching their fullest potential," said University of Kentucky President Lee T. Todd, Jr. "I am proud, however, that UK is working hard to change that. Kentucky's Drug Endangered Child Training Network is improving lives across the state, protecting children from the dangers of methampehtamine production. Through collaboration with federal and state agencies, like the Office of Drug Control Policy, UK is dedicated to tackling this important issue, as we continue in our quest to make Kentucky a better place for our children and grandchildren."

Teresa Barton, interim executive director of ODCP and the deputy secretary of the Commonwealth of Kentucky's Justice & Public Safety Cabinet, echoed Todd's statement.

"The Office of Drug Control policy wants to assure collaboration of prevention, treatment, and law enforcement in addressing substance abuse in Kentucky," said Barton. "The Methpedia project is just one more example of how we are partnering with the University of Kentucky and other organizations across the state to ensure a united effort to combat drug abuse."

In striving to become a Top 20 public research institution, the University of Kentucky is a catalyst for a new Commonwealth – a Kentucky that is healthier, better educated, and positioned to compete in a global and changing economy.
