DEA Assessment:
- An increase in the amount of crystal methamphetamine has been seen over the past year.
- Methamphetamine is the primary drug of choice in Oklahoma.1
Methamphetamine Use among State Population (2002-2005):
7.4% of persons aged 12 or older reported using meth one or more times during their life.2
3.7% of young adults aged 18-25 reported past year methamphetamine use.
0.9% of persons aged 12 or older reported past year methamphetamine use.3
Methamphetamine Use among High School Students (2005):
7.1% of students reported using methamphetamine one or more times during their life.4
Drug Offenses:
49% of 2005 Federal Drug Cases in Oklahoma involved methamphetamine.5
Lab Incidents:
There were 115 lab incidents in 2006.6
Treatment Admissions for Methamphetamine Abuse:
3,997 treatment admissions for methamphetamine/amphetamine abuse in 2005;
24% of all drug abuse treatment admissions.7
State Laws Pertaining to Precursor Chemicals:
9 g of PSE per 30-day period may be purchased or sold; PSE is designated as a C-V product; however, this does not apply to C-V PSE products dispensed upon a prescription; C-V PSE products may only be sold in a licensed pharmacy; Schedule V products may not be sold to anyone under age 18 without a prescription; Existing law had required that purchasers produce unspecified photo ID showing date of birth. As of November 1, 2005, law will require the purchaser's product driver's license or other government issued photo ID; Products must be kept in a locked environment that is within view of the pharmacy or behind the pharmacy counter.8
