Methamphetamine Abuse in Pennsylvania

DEA Assessment:

  • Methamphetamine is available in varying quantities in Pennsylvania with consumption concentrated in the Philadelphia area.
  • The majority of the methamphetamine used in Pennsylvania is supplied by local traffickers who manufacture or produce it themselves and by major trafficking organizations operating in California and Mexico.1

Methamphetamine Use among State Population (2002-2005):

4.6% reported using methamphetamine one or more times during their life.2
0.5% of young adults aged 18-25 reported past year methamphetamine use.
0.2% of persons aged 12 or older reported past year methamphetamine use.3

Drug Offenses:

7% of 2005 Federal Drug Cases in Pennsylvania involved methamphetamine.4

Lab Incidents:

There were 38 lab incidents in 2006.6

Treatment Admissions for Methamphetamine Abuse:

356 treatment admissions for methamphetamine/amphetamine abuse in 2005;
1% of all drug abuse treatment admissions.6
