3.1% of persons aged 12 or older reported using meth one or more times during their life.2
1.9% of young adults aged 18-25 reported past year methamphetamine use.
0.6% of persons aged 12 or older reported past year methamphetamine use.3
Methamphetamine Use among High School Students (2005):
6.4% of students reported using methamphetamine one or more times during their life.4
Drug Offenses:
12% of 2005 Federal Drug Cases in South Carolina involved methamphetamine.5
Lab Incidents:
There were 69 lab incidents in 2006.6
Treatment Admissions for Methamphetamine Abuse:
762 treatment admissions for methamphetamine/amphetamine abuse in 2005;
3% of all drug abuse treatment admissions.7
State Laws Pertaining to Precursor Chemicals:
Sales of single entity and combination PSE and EPH are limited to 3 packages or any number of packages totaling 9 gm; Single entity PSE and EPH may only be offered for retail sale in blister packaging; For single entity PSE and EPH products, the retailer must require purchasers to produce a government issued photo ID showing the date of birth; For single entity PSE and EPH products, the retailer require purchasers to sign a written or electronic log; Retailers must retain the log for 2 years after which the log may be destroyed; Single entity PSE and EPH products may only be sold from behind a counter.8
