DEA Assessment:

  • Methamphetamine is not commonly available in the state; although two clandestine methamphetamine laboratories were seized, one in June 2004 and another in September 2005.1

Methamphetamine Use among State Population (2002-2005):

3.2% of persons aged 12 or older reported using meth one or more times during their life.2
0.4% of young adults aged 18-25 reported past year methamphetamine use.
0.2% of persons aged 12 or older reported past year methamphetamine use.3

Methamphetamine Use among High School Students (2005):

6.6% of students reported using methamphetamine one or more times during their life.4

Drug Offenses:

2% of 2005 Federal Drug Cases in Vermont involved methamphetamine.5

Lab Incidents:

There were 0 lab incidents in 2006.6

Treatment Admissions for Methamphetamine Abuse:

37 treatment admissions for methamphetamine/amphetamine abuse in 2005;
0.4% of all drug abuse treatment admissions.7

State Laws Pertaining to Precursor Chemicals:

Retailers may not knowingly sell more than 3.6 grams of EPH, PSE or PPA base products to an individual within a calendar day; EPH, PSE and PPA products must be maintained in a locked display case or behind the counter out of the public's reach.8
