DEA Assessment:

  • Methamphetamine is the most serious drug threat in Wyoming.
  • In recent years, methamphetamine arrests have exceeded arrests for all other drugs.
  • Methamphetamine abuse is of great concern to Wyoming law enforcement due to its correlation with violent crime, domestic violence, and child abuse.1

Methamphetamine Use among State Population (2002-2005):

10.2% of persons aged 12 or older reported using meth one or more times during their life.2
4.6% of young adults aged 18-25 reported past year methamphetamine use.
1.5% of persons aged 12 or older reported past year methamphetamine use.3

Methamphetamine Use among High School Students (2005):

8.5% of students reported using methamphetamine one or more times during their life.4

Drug Offenses:

66% of 2005 Federal Drug Cases in Wyoming involved methamphetamine.5

Lab Incidents:

There were 0 lab incidents in 2006.6

Treatment Admissions for Methamphetamine Abuse:

878 treatment admissions for methamphetamine/amphetamine abuse in 2004;
18% of all drug abuse treatment admissions.7

State Laws Pertaining to Precursor Chemicals:

Retail sale of nonexempt PSE, EPH and PPA products limited to 2 packages per transaction; Retail sale of nonexempt EPH, PSE and PPA products are restricted to packages containing no more than 3 grams of one or more precursors calculated in terms of active base and in blister packs containing no more than 2 dosage units in each blister pack; Retail distributors must display nonexempt EPH, PSE and PPA products behind a store counter in an area not accessible to customers.8
